Lismore Airport
Lismore Airport, New South Wales, is a regional airport in Lismore. After World War I, the Lismore area witnessed a huge increase in small plane landings nearby. One of the most famous pilots, Charles Kingsford-Smith landed here in the mid 1930s. In 1969, an aerodrome for South Lismore was licensed by the Department of Civil Aviation. Council and community pressure over the decades finally persuaded the Department to upgrade the airport facilities to a higher level. Some of the necessary improvements were directional beacons, night flying facilities, and electric flare paths. With the improvements came further development of Lismore as a city. The passenger terminal was opened in December 2000 by the Qantas CEO James Strong. Summerland Sunrise Rotary Club organized a fly-in by all sorts of aircraft, to celebrate the event. Inside the terminal, passengers can find a café operated by Caddies, a business lounge, meeting rooms, and a tourist information desk. There is secure parking for over 60 cars. Aircraft maintenance is given serious consideration at the maintenance facility that services all types of aircraft. Ultralight aircraft, crop dusters or ag spraying aircraft, and air freight are just some of the specialty airplanes that use the Lismore Airport.
Airforce Beach, Evans Head
There are few things as relaxing as spending time on the beach, especially after time on an airplane. One of the North Coast’s most popular and attended beaches is Airforce Beach, which is patrolled during summer holiday periods. Surfing is popular at the beach, as well as swimming, lying in the sun, and generally doing nothing. If you’ve never participated in the sport of surfing, there are surf schools along the beach to teach you.
Morning Tea Tour
