Tamworth Airport serves the city of Tamworth, New South Wales. It is about 10 kilometres, on New Winton Road, from the city centre. The airport is managed and maintained by the Tamworth Regional Council. In addition to being a public airport, it serves as the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter’s northern base. After WWII, the RAAF airfield was turned over to East West Airlines. It soon relocated to its present location, and was upgraded to medium jet standard in the early 1980s. There are two paved asphalt runways, and two grassed brown clay runways at the airport. Brindabella Airlines flies from Tamworth to Brisbane, and QantasLink flies to Sydney. It was the 39th busiest airport in Australia in 2011. The airport is to the west of the Great Dividing Range, near Wentworth Mounds.
